thanksgiving!

wow i haven't posted anything in foreverrrrr
i already planned on making a post for thanksgiving, but now i can do that AND get entered to win a modcloth 100$ giftcard :D

what i am thankful for.. hmm..
i'm going to say.. my home!
i love my house, more than anything in the whole world almost. yes it's pretty crappy and we have a lot of bad neighbors and crazy people and we're isolated in the country and live on a crappy gravel/dirt road, but i've lived here for 15 of the 16 years of my life! sure it has a lot of work that needs to be done on it, sure it floods almost every winter, sure the power breaker snaps sometimes and we have to find a different place to sleep in case our house blows up, but i love it! there have been so many memories, i've seen all my 6 nieces and nephews grow up here, i've seen my siblings go from awful high schooler to sucessful adults, i've made mistakes and learned lessons. i've got through suicide, depression, anorexia, and just hard times in the family, gotten through it all in these old walls. i've got my greatest inspirations for art and ideas while sitting and staring at my ceilings and floors of my house. our fireplace that keeps me warm and gives me happy feelings, the textures in the window panes that keep me entertained for hours, finding shapes and drawing them or writing stories about them. the one place where i'm always comfortable, even if i've got a green face mask on and dirty pj's and greasy hair! :D often i complain, "omg i'm so bored, stuck in my boring house" but this house.. my home.. it has kept me safe for so many years, it's provided me happiness and comfort and safety for so long, its given me a place to hide when im talking on the phone, and its given me corners to sit in when i'm thinking my most intimate thoughts! i'm going to bawl my eyes out when i have to move, but i lovelovelove my house!! today's lunch

EVERYONE HAS TO TRY THIS.

it's my own variation of biscuits, which are absolutely delicious, cucumber soup, and homemade lemonade!! if you don't like cucumber, then this may not be for you, but it's worth a try.
i HATE cucumber, but this soup is just great! c:

okay here we go:

almond biscuits (makes 6):

a small handful of almonds (doesn't matter if they're blanched or not)
2-3 tbsp honey
1-2 tbsp butter
1 tsp baking soda
3 tsp water
1/4-1/2 cup unbleached flour
1/4 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1 tbsp flour (for baking sheet)
cooking spray

first, use a food processor or magic bullet and ground up the almond till its soft like flour.
put the honey and butter in a bowl and microwave until melted
but the almonds into the honey and butter mixture and mix well.
add the flour and mix
heat up the water in a small bowl for about 45 seconds. take out and immediately add the baking soda (it will fizz and go all crazy, that's supposed to happen)
add the baking soda/water to the mixture. mix well.
add sugar and salt. mix
if its too liquidy add a bit of flour, if it's too dry, add some more honey and water.
put some cooking spray on a baking sheet
sprinkle some flour over the cooking spray
spoon the dough onto the cookie sheet

bake on 325 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

cucumber soup (makes 3-4 servings):

1 cup water
1/4 cup instant mashed potatoes
1 1/4 cup of cream, whipping cream, or half n half
1 egg yolk
1/2 of a medium cucumber
1/2 cup of milk
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp garlic powder
salt and pepper

boil the water and add the instant mashed potatoes until thick. add the onion and garlic powder and mix.
beat the egg yolk with 3/4 cup of cream and add to the potatoes and mix
chop up the cucumber, and blend it in a food processor with the milk
add the cucumber mixture to the potato mixture and mix well over medium-high heat
add the remainder of the cream, and a dash of salt and however much pepper
eat hot or chilled in the fridge! c:

lemonade (makes a pitcherful):
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup lemon juice
3-4 cups ice water

boil sugar and 1 cup of water until sugar is dissolved.
add sugar syrup and lemon juice to pitcher of 3-4 cups ice water
if you want it more tart, add more lemon. if you want it sweeter, add more sugar.
if it's too strong, dillute with more water.

enjoy!!

in case anyone cares.. these are recipes from cookbooks around marie antoinette's time.. some of her favorite treats were dunking (almond) biscuits, and lemonade.
and i love marie antoinette!
try it, i know you'll like it. ^_^

lily allen... o dearrr

As we all know, Lily Allen has had some very..erm..interesting fashion statements.
From her pink hair to her dead bambi dress to her giant fur hat and now to this:

She was seen taking the 'sheer clothing trend' for fall to a whole new level, by wearing... a lingerie body suit? Her bob hairstyle and glittery eyeshadow realllllyyy top it off. (2009 V Festival in the UK.)

Loving the lingerie get-up's, she also wore sheer bodysuit at another show in Helsinki.

Showing off her bosom while looking like a trashy 80's pornstar who just woke up isn't really doing much for her I don't think. Lily Allen won the NME award for worst-dressed star, and I know this isn't helping.

Honestly, all I have to say is, "WTF."

Many others were at the V Festival including: The Killers (yes this is how I found the craziness of Lily Allen, by searching the Killers), The Specials, Katy Perry, The Ting Tings, Amy Winehouse, Lady GaGa, Lily Allen, Calvin Harris and more. Despite the marvelous line up, and two day length, the event may well be remembered for who didn't show up. Oasis.

But there's plenty of pictures of everyone else:

Katy Perry's interesting outfit (and pose) in which I find somewhat appealing:

Lady Gaga (surprisingly) looks wonderful! Her hair is curly and fancy, not completely ridiculous.

And of course, a picture of Brandon Flowers, looking awesome in his a sort of metallic black variation of the feather jacket. Atleast it's not the crazy tiger jacket, bahahha.

The look on his face is from seeing Lily Allen.

a recent discovery..

So everyone knows the I lovelovelove The Killers, and Brandon Flowers is a huge inspiration on my fashion. So while browsing pictures of his marvelous clothing I stumbled upon this purple tiger jacket, under a denim jacket, a couple months ago. He got it sometime in the beginning of this year..I'm pretty sure. Everyone wondered, 'where did this crazy feather jacket go??'

Bono and Coldplay even got so excited and curious, they sung to and with Brandon about it. Just kidding. He is now wearing his purple tiger jacket every time he's not wearing his feather jacket, even at once-in-a-lifetime performances. (At the Royal Bush Hall, War Child Benefit Gig.)

He wears it ALL THE TIME. Almost every time he goes to meet fans before and after and between concerts. He wears it to fancyschmancy celebrity events.

Here while leaving the BBC studios in London, being photographed by the paparazzi.

And again, being photographed a different time by the paparazzi. That's the same exact outfit, like 20 times, right, RIGHT?

Well we all know the song off their newest album, Neon Tiger. I'm sure Brandon thought he was being pretty clever. It seems there is a theme going on. What's next? Buying a silvery/metallic jacket and wearing it every other day for a Spaceman theme? Maybe a Candy Apple Red jacket to go with a Joyride theme? Well maybe he can get this nice purple tiger for a pet to go with his new neon tiger theme. Hahaaa.

Anyways, back to the mysterious jacket/hoodie. Brandon always wears it with the same denim jacket, and the same t shirt, and the same tight black jeans (or regular blue jeans), and his same black boots. It's Brandon's official look of this year I'm guessing.

Now, fans wanted to know: where can I buy this? where is it from? how can I get this? it seems like I've seen it before.. NO WAY. IT'S SOLD AT ALMOST EVERY MALL ON THE PLANET. I almost got one like this a couple years ago.. it was pretty similar.. it was from Rave, or Wetseal or one of those places. Many places have ones very similar...but not the same.

So this is it, the 100% authentic Brandon Flowers Purple Tiger Zip Up Hoodie Jacket:

There it is. Exactly the same. It has a gradient purple base, and the right strings and everything.
So where is this magical piece of history from? Mrs. Jones perhaps who designed his one of a kind feather jacket, or Dior, or some other top name designer?
Nope. Simple.

Forever 21.

Yep, Forever Freaking 21.

No, Forever 21 didn't create a replica to sell to crazed Brandon/Killers fans. Fans only found it days after Brandon first wore it. It was online for like 24 bucks or something. Though, after he wore it, those purple tiger hoodies made an amazing come back aaaaaallllll over not long after he wore it. Coincidence? I think not.

Really though, why is Brandon Flowers, one of the best musicians of all time, shopping at Forever 21? Did his wife buy it for him? Or maybe he got it as a gift, and loved it, not realizing where it was from, but now just can't part with it. I like it. Haha.

Now I'm starting to reconsider if I should buy a purple tiger hoodie like I almost did a couple years ago... I could pull it off. ;)
Too bad they're sold out..
